BARWON HEALTH - MENTAL HEALTH MONTH
In the Barwon region, the Mental Health Month program is coordinated through a working group of consumers, carers, healthcare workers and community members. Barwon Health is supporting specific mental health promotion activities that focus primarily on youth and key partners such as City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, headspace, GMHBA, Colac Otway Shire, genu, Art of the Mind, this is my reality, Colac Area Health, The Geelong Clinic, Lions International and Kardinia Rotary, as well as others which have supported the development of activities over the month.
Barwon Health will officially launch Mental Health Week at the 'Humans in Geelong' Expo, Deakin Waterfront, on October 7. The event will incorporate an array of guest speakers, workshops and live music, while the Barwon Mental Health Awards will be announced at 1.45pm on the central courtyard stage featuring Sally Buchanan-Hagen. The event is a great day for families and friends in the beautiful waterfront campus setting.
Highlights across the region include the screening of the film Embrace by Geelong Women’s Wellness at the Pivotonian Cinema on 8 October and an Education Seminar ‘Connected Communities’ at the Surf Coast Shire. The yearly IMPACT SRC Mental Health Week Trivia night returns to create a fun evening whilst raising funds for research into Bipolar Disorder on Friday 12 October and the month is topped off with a Youth Obstacle Challenge at Eastern Beach on Saturday 27 October.
