Festival of Sport
Have you ever wanted to be tossed into the air like a cheerleader? What about completing an ‘obsta-cool’ course like the Ninja Warriors? Maybe you thought lawn bowls was only played by grandma and grandpa. Or that frisbee was something you just did for fun on the beach. Think again.
Geelong’s inaugural Festival of Sport at Kardinia Park Precinct on 6 and 7 of October is the perfect place to come and try all of these things and more (okay, maybe we won’t throw you into the air on your first try at cheerleading). With over 30 different and unique sporting activations taking place across the Precinct each day, this is a weekend packed with movement and fun, there will be plenty of opportunity to try an array of sports and activities you never knew existed.
From exercise classes, to stand-up paddle boarding, fencing, virtual sailing, orienteering, rugby, the list goes on. There is something for all ages and abilities on offer. What about Parkour? Developed from military obstacle training or table tennis, the younger sibling of one our nation’s favourite sports.
Australian sports staples such as the AFL, NRL, netball and tennis will also give the community the chance to ‘give it a go’. Kick-to-kick will be taking place on the hallowed turf of GMHBA Stadium on Sunday morning, while an inflatable tennis court will provide the perfect space try out speed serving.
Young, old and every age in between will have to the opportunity to come and try each of these sports and many more as the precinct transforms into an exciting festival of sporting fun.
So come along to the first sporting festival of its kind in Geelong, it’s free, it’s fun and who knows, maybe you’ll find a brand new passion for a sport you’ve never tried. There will be loads of free family entertainment including the MikMaks – say no more!
