My Other Closet – the Cabaret
Described as “moving”, “brave” and “wonderful”, My Other Closet, the Cabaret is Russ’s true, first-hand account of his journey to domestic violence survivor.
‘My Other Closet’ connects with its audience because it is first and foremost a celebration of triumph in the face of extreme adversity. Whilst being a moving musical theatre piece in its own right, this production breaks down myths and provides genuine insight to the audience to identify LGBTQ DV and to seek support for themselves and/or their LGBTQ friends and family. A professional DV counsellor is on hand every performance. In previous seasons this has directly facilitated audience members to access services & and find safety outside their current abusive relationships.
Already having had sell-out seasons in both Sydney and Melbourne, sector transforming impact as part of a domestic violence training day to 300 Domestic Violence professionals in Melbourne, the production is currently touring regional Victoria. First stop was a highly successful training event in Ballarat & public performance in Daylesford as part of the ChillOut Festival. Next stop is Geelong in November 2019.
