Rethink Your Drink Challenge
During term 3, the Geelong Football Club and GMHBA encourage all greater Geelong primary school kids to pack a water bottle in their lunchbox. It’s a great way to help students learn about sugary drinks and to achieve the recommended 7 cups of water a day. It also encourages the whole school community to get involved and to promote water as the best way to quench your thirst! Australia is in the top 10 highest soft drink consuming countries on a per-capita basis. Soft drinks, cordials, sports drinks and juice boxes often have large amounts of sugar.
In fact, a 600ml bottle of soft drink contains around 16 teaspoons of sugar. Drinking too many sweetened drinks can cause a range of problems including tooth decay, obesity and even affect a child’s behaviour and mood. Rethink your drink is offering the winning class a signed Geelong Cats Guernsey from the entire team including club favourites Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood, Tom Hawkins and Harry Taylor. The class can choose any day of the week to record their results. Greater Geelong schools can contact Healthy Heroes Education Officer Rachel at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more information.
