The Gig Economy: Expansive Learning Network Event

Wednesday, 16 August 2017 - 9:00am to 1:00pm

The Expansive Learning Network (ELN) is returning to the G21 Region. Our current series of "hot" topics is designed to bring together stakeholders who are interested in developing joint strategies to improve the connections within the regional labour market. The focus of the 2017/18 series of Events will be the "Gig" economy and the new technologies impacting on businesses and those seeking work, particularly young people trying to enter the the labour market.

The 'gig' economy is a growing phenomenon around the world, resulting from the ongoing decline in full-time jobs. Workers find themselves having to put together a series of concurrent part-time, casual jobs in order to make a full-time living.

What does this mean?

For some, an exciting and innovative way to work, with freedom to 'mix and match' jobs in areas they are passionate about. For other, it brings insecurity and fear, with a lack of economic safety nets.

How can you get involved?

The ELN's series of 2017/18 events will focus on brining together regional stakeholders to understand how best to assist their clients and students in navigating this new economic reality

Venue: Deakin Cats Community Centre, Simonds Stadium, South Geelong
