Working with Young People from Multicultural & Refugee Backgrounds

Tuesday, 27 February 2018 - 9:30am to 4:00pm

Do you work with young people from multicultural backgrounds? Does your organisation want to cater for young people from diverse populations?

With 49% of Australia’s population born overseas or having one/both parents born overseas, and 12% of our population made up of youth, organisations in all sectors need to become savvy about working with young people from multicultural backgrounds.

From cultural competency to learning about young people and their settlement journeys, the Centre for Multicultural Youth’s expert trainers shed light on the complex life stages and situations of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds, and how organisations working with them can build better support mechanisms.

In this training, we will take a deep dive into the National Youth Settlement Framework which explores the work that needs to be done to support young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds to settle well in Australia and become active citizens.

This is essential learning for youth workers, case workers, social workers and anyone in community development working with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
