Nova Peris was the first Aboriginal Australian to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. She is also one of a very few athletes who have represented their country in two different sports; hockey & athletics, and at separate Olympic Games. In 1993 Nova was elected to the Senate for the Northern Territory 2013. She retired prior to general elections 2016. Her aim is to build the foundations for a fairer society for all.

Our International Women's Day event will also announce the winners of the 'Women in Community Life' Awards which are held to celebrate the high achievements and exceptional leadership of Geelong women.
